It was larger than I imagined. My first thought was, Where am I going to store this thing?!? And indeed, that was before we remodeled our kitchen, so storage WAS a challenge. A crock pot got booted out of the cabinet to make room for my new appliance.
I Then took out your instruction manual. I was immediately confused. It absolutely was like reading Chinese. Oh. It was Chinese. The manual has several different languages printed. Once I found the English section, things were slightly better; although, it did take reading over several sections a few times to really know how each of the parts and buttons worked.
I knew the only method through that manual was to actually plug my www.instapotguide.org in and use it! Maybe wild rice was a safe choice. Sure enough, it worked and reduce the cooking time! (Truthfully, the recipe worked just fine to me, but others have used it since and also have reported that there was plenty of liquid left. Similar to soup than rice, even though rice was cooked nicely; they simply needed to drain it.)
I understood making bone broth. Which was simple enough. And That I definitely loved lacking my crock pot tied up for 3 or 4 to 5 days while my broth simmered. Yet, I couldnt appear to get past bone broth and wild rice.
Learning How To Use My Instant Pot – I truly dont remember the very first thing I attempted. Maybe it had been brown rice? Honestly, I dont remember the way it turned out. (It absolutely was probably fine, or I could have been really discouraged.) I recall being really impressed at how quickly whatever it was cooked. I did so utilize the Manual setting, therefore it was my first time actually pressure cooking.
But I also remember being somewhat confused by the instruction manual. So confused, in fact, i dont know where instruction manual is anymore Learning by watching and doing thats the way i prefer it. When my buddy Wardee announced her Pressure Cooking eCourse, I was saved! Finally! I could WATCH and Figure out how to use my Instant Pot!
The tips and tricks I learned through the Pressure Cooking eCourse changed everything. I didnt know you might actually put dishes inside the Instant Pot I didnt know what the trivet thing-y was forUntil Wardee showed me! (More on this in a minute!)
When Things Began To Turn AroundI remember it as a when it was yesterday
My partner was coming home for lunch. I needed remembered to thaw the stew meat, but neglected to set it within the crock pot for beef stew. Once I glanced at the clock that read 11:07 and he will be house to eat out at noon uh-oh, I used to be struggling! That which was I likely to do concerning the stew? Hardly anything else was thawed! We had no leftovers!
So I improvised. I just started adding the best spices (cumin, chili powder, garlic) to the meat, used the Saute feature, then pressure cooked it and prayed it would come out. And it also did! Not only did I make lunch in 53 minutes, I made beef stew in 53 minutes! Plus it was delicious! Who does that??? Me! From that moment on, I knew Id be just fine. My Instant Pot has developed into a trusted kitchen friend that Ive since trusted to make more lunches and dinners in a hurry.
Problems With The Instant Pot
The list of pros far outweighs a list of cons, but it wouldnt be a genuine review of the Instant Pot without full disclosure of the negatives, too, would it? In my view, they are the top 4 difficulties with the Instant Pot:
#1 Smells – The rubber seal within the lid appears to really hold to smells from whatever once was cooked. For that longest time, my rubber seal smelled like cumin and chili powder due to a big batch of beans I cooked. It experienced a very distinct Tikka Masala smell after cooking Tikka Masala. We never noticed any off tastes in the foods, nevertheless the smell was definitely present. We were also hand-washing then because this was before we remodeled our kitchen and put in a dishwasher.
Given that were washing both the stainless pot and the rubber seal within the dishwasher, there are no smells! If youre hand-washing, perhaps a long soak in baking soda for that rubber seal is definitely the ticket to smell-removal? I suggest keeping an extra seal or 2 on hand in case.
#2 ?Too Full = Sputtering Bean Liquid Everywhere. I sprouted about 4 servings of chickpeas to create my Sprouted Kale Hummus. Needless to say, I needed to cook each of the beans at once, and so i figured it may practice it quicker inside the Instant Pot. Unfortunately, 4 cups of swollen beans the water necessary to cover were just a lot of within the pot. Bean liquid was dripping zecsbq in the catch on the back and sputtering out from the pressure valve. It produced a HUGE mess. Granted, I used to be using a 6-quart Instant Pot. I am fairly confident the 8-quart Instant Pot would handle larger amounts of foods a lot more cleanly.
#3 Youre gonna want 2. I promise. Once you figure out how awesome the Instant Pot is, youre planning to apply it all. the. time. And then you?e going to wish to double up. I learned this the hard way after i made Instant Pot Yogurt for the first time. Poor me. I needed to travel without my Instant Pot for 2 stinkin days! Ive since ordered the 8-quart! I have an acquaintance who actually has 3 Instant Pots!
